Plein Air Hike and Retreat

Join us on Thursday afternoon, November 4, 2021, for a refreshing and inspiring hike through the beauty of Southern Utah’s Red Rock country. We’ll leave from the Kanab Center in the early afternoon, between noon and 1:00 pm. If the hike isn’t your thing, the Kanab Center will be open and available for writing.

Experienced tour guides will lead several hikes for varying levels of ability. Each hike will have opportunities to see unique things like dinosaur tracks, granaries, hidden lakes, and more.

Plan to bring water, pen, and notebook. Depending on the trail, you might want hiking sticks. There will be a significant amount of time to free write.

We’ll return to the Kanab Center by 5:00 pm. Dinner will be on your own, but you’ll want to make sure to get back to the Kanab Center by 6:00.

At 6:00, Elaine Vickers will address the conference and the community. As part of this event address, the conference will host readings and art from local students who will be participating in an essay contest. Their essays will be featured in our anthology.

The rest of the night, the Kanab Center will be open for you! Take the opportunity to write quietly, join in writing sprints, join a yoga for writers class, and socialize with fellow writers. Have some yummy treats, rub shoulders with our special guests, and just have fun!
