As the name indicates, this contest is the First K (1000 words) of a piece.
Make sure that the file you upload does not contain any identifying information. If submitting a memoir, use a pseudonym. Each entry should be in Times New Roman, double spaced, 12 pt. font, with a header containing the title of the piece.
